Are you in a virtual work meeting when your mom walks in and tells you to switch rooms? It’s pretty awkward, right?
All you can do is request a brief break from your boss, relocate to a different room, and resume the call using a different device. But thanks to Google Meet‘s new “Switch Here” feature, those days are over!
Google announced this game-changing feature in a recent blog post, saying that getting our work done can happen from many locations across many devices. Beginning today, you can smoothly transfer between devices while on a Google Meet call without hanging up and rejoining.”
Google Meeting calls using your smartphone or tablet, but you just got to your desk and want to switch to your laptop. With the “Switch Here” option, you can seamlessly transfer the call without missing a beat. You no longer have to apologize to your colleagues for the interruption or worry about missing important information.
And that’s not all! The feature also lets you join a call on two devices at the same time. This means you can have your laptop set up for screen sharing while using your phone for audio, or vice versa. Talk about flexibility!
To use the feature, simply open the same meeting link on the device you want to switch to while you’re already in the call. Look for the blue “Switch here” button, and voila! If you want to join from two devices at the same time, click “Other joining options” and then “Join here too.”
The call-transfer feature is already rolling out, so keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks. It’s just one more way Google is making remote work more convenient and less stressful.
Gone are the days of frantically scrambling to switch rooms or devices mid-meeting. With Google Meet’s “Switch Here” feature, you can stay focused on the task at hand and let the technology do the work for you. Therefore, the next time your mother interrupts a virtual meeting, simply smile and seamlessly switch devices.
